Few people are able to spend most of their time pursuing their passion in life. I'm one of them, and I feel blessed to have had a love affair with photography since I was 20 years old in 1968. I decided to abort my intended career as a doctor in favor of photography and have never regretted it. Photography has enriched my life more than I can tell you. My career has taken me to over 54 countries, and I've seen and photographed wondrous things. I capture on film only beauty. The dark side of life I leave to other photographers.
I specialize in wildlife and nature, international travel, and digital effects. In addition, I also shoot nudes, photo- and electron microscopy, children, and other subjects that stimulate my visual or emotional sensibilities. I prefer using medium format, specifically the Mamiya RZ 67, for its superior resolution. When I travel, I carry two RZ bodies and six lenses: 37mm fisheye, 50mm wide angle, 110 normal, 250m, 350mm and 500mm telephotos. I also now use the Mamiya 7 with its ultra wide 43mm lensProjecting 6x7cm slides with a Cabin projector is a little bit like dying and going to heaven. It is that good.
I am the author of eight books on photography. My work is sold in 30 countries around the world, and my images have appeared on scores of magazine and book covers, calendars, posters, national ads, trade ads, brochures, and corporate promotions. Westlight in Los Angeles represents my stock photography.
For many years I've led photography tours to exotic places. These include Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Burma, Greece, The Czech Republic and Slovakia, Spain, and Peru.
I now live in Northridge California (earthquake country), which is a suburb of Los Angeles. But I'm seriously considering moving to Asia, possibly Indonesia or Thailand. I love many aspects of Asian culture, and I now speak Indonesian and a little bit of Thai, so I would feel very comfortable living in that part of the
world.
