I love making pictures. You can say that I'm addicted. Yes, I most certainly am addicted! I love photography and I love art, having been involved in 3D computer graphics since 1988 (at the quite-confused age of 15). So what better way to combine the two than to paint something and then photograph it? And what better canvas than a dynamic human body, where your work of art actually talks back to you? I work exclusively with liquid latex. I like the way it dries into a 3D surface and I like that I have at my disposal not only color but dimension as well. It's really messy and difficult to work with, but the end results are pretty dramatic. It's really easy to clean up, though: it just peels right off the skin. There are lots of excellent bodypainters out there: airbrush and traditional paint artists that paint bodies, guys and gals who can paint on a tuxedo such that even with a microscrope you couldn't tell that it was painted on. I wanted to do something different and to see what I can create with a solid medium. The latex lets me incorporate actual physical elements like elastic cording, metal foil, and prefabricated rubber items into my painting projects. It's also a lot more durable than water- or alcohol-based bodypaints and it even counts as legal clothing in most jurisdictions! I do all the photography myself - chalk that up to my control-freak Capricorn nature. I want full creative influence over every aspect of the images I create. And I don't know which part I enjoy more: painting on the design or photographing it afterwards. Hey, it's all good! I like to create images that are familiar - something you've seen before and can identify with. Otherwise, it's just abstract art, not that there's anything wrong with that....it's just not what I'm after. I very much enjoy figuring out how to map a concept or an object onto a painted person. Sometimes I lay awake all night turning it over in my head, and 9 times out of 10, as soon as I let go of it and go to sleep, the idea comes to me. And then as soon as I've executed that idea, I get two more and the cycle continues. Yes, such is the life of an addicted person. It never ends! I hope you enjoy viewing my images as much as I enjoyed making them.
